A little about the historical happenings of the country. Malawi, the African's landlocked country formerly recognized as Nyasaland. Chichwa is the native while English is the official one. Until 1953, Malawi was Nyasaland then it joined Northern southern Rhodesia to unite a federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. 1963, this federation terminated and Nyasaland became Republic of Malawi in 1964.

Dances are the important mark of the Malawian culture and the dance groups are officially organized by the Government. Conventional music and dances can be seen at inaugural shows, national days, marriage ceremonies and celebrations.
